Quaker Women win at South Moor

Second in the table

Darlington Women are second in the league table after a 4-1 win at South Moor on Sunday.
Goals from Hattie Raine (2), Lily Wilkinson and Nicole Graham gave Quakers the points and put them four points behind leaders Chester-le-Street Amazons but having played two games more.

Darlington started the game well, trying to play football on a difficult grass pitch. The starting 11 wasted no time getting in front and Hattie Raine was on the scoresheet in the first 5 minutes with a defence splitting pass from Emily Taylor over the top for Hattie to finish well. Just over 10 minutes later and Darlington added a second with some good football, Chloe Ryan the provider with a lovely pass for Lily Wilkinson to drive at goal and finish well for her 2nd goal of the season.

Darlington continued to attack in numbers and came close again with Hattie Raine going down in the box, but the referee waved play on despite the penalty claims. Chloe Ryan also came close, with her shot beating the keeper, only to rebound back of the post. A third goal for Darlington came from a long ball from the back from Chloe Tinkler which Hattie Raine latched onto and finished for her 20th league goal of the season.

It was 3-0 at half time and with the pitch cutting up it was going to be difficult to play much football in the second half. Having said that, Darlington continued to try and play and got their 4th goal just before the hour mark with Nicole Graham latching onto a loose ball in midfield and finishing superbly from outside the box to make it 4-0. South Moor kept battling and had a few attacks of their own with Evie Whitaker staying strong in goal. However on the 68th minute South Moor had 1 back with a good finish over the keepers head.

It was all applause on the 75th minute as Lily Large made her return to the pitch after 14 months out, her first game back since suffering an ACL injury last year. It was great to see Lily back on the pitch after all her hard work and effort to get back fit.

Player of the match went to Nicole Graham (sponsored by Stuart Shanks Painting and Decorating) for another assured performance in the middle of the park, breaking up play, linking play and also getting on the scoresheet with a fantastic finish.

Thanks to South Moor Ladies AFC for the game and good luck for the rest of the season.

Thanks for the travelling support today,
we really do appreciate everyone’s support. We are back in action next Sunday as the Quaker Women travel to Gateshead to take on Leam Rangers on Sunday 24th March.
