Darlington manager Tommy Wright will take almost a full strength squad to Northallerton tonight for Quakers’ last public pre season friendly.

Quakers have had mixed fortunes in the pre season build up, beating Sunderland but losing to Motherwell, PSV De Jong and Middlesbrough, and now Tommy wants to end the friendlies with a win.

“We are looking to win this game,” he said. “It’s our last public friendly over 90 minutes, and I want the players to improve their fitness, as well as their understanding with each other. We might organise a behind-closed doors friendly next week to finish off ahead of our first league game of the season against Curzon Ashton.

“There are some very good partnerships forming throughout the team, which I’m pleased about, while it would be great to see the partnership of Reece Styche and Simon Ainge score a couple of goals.

“I want to see all the parts of the team functioning properly. I know there’s some work to be done, but I’d rather be in this position than be thinking that everything is going well, because that’s when complacency creeps in.”

Two players will be missing tonight because they’re carrying knocks – midfielder David Syers and defender Jonny Burn – but defender Dom Collins and attacking midfielder Jordan Nicholson both return to the squad, while winger Alex Henshall could start his first game of pre-season.

The match kicks off at 7.30, admission is £6 adults and £4 concessions.

Northallerton will play in the Northern League second division next season, having just missed out on promotion last time round.
