Quakers continue pre season at Harrogate

AA looking for progression

Quakers continue their pre-season build up when the squad goes to Harrogate Town tonight.

Quakers lost their first friendly by 3-0 against Motherwell last Saturday, but produced a very encouraging performance in terms of fitness and flowing football in the game against a strong SPL side.

Manager Alun Armstrong is likely to take the same squad that was on duty last weekend, with defenders Terry Galbraith and new signing Michael Liddle added. Galbraith and Liddle played part of the 2-2 friendly draw at Darlington Town in midweek.

Michael Liddle

“We’re expecting this to be a very tough game, because Harrogate have signed some very good players during the summer. Jon Stead, for example, has played for several Football League clubs at a high level, and he’s just been at Notts County.

“Our main aims through pre-season are to improve the players’ fitness, the understanding between them and their pattern of play. They had a really tough training session on Tuesday in preparation for this game. I want to see some steady progression throughout pre-season, so I want to see us improve on the Motherwell game.

“One or two players were carrying niggles after Saturday, so I’ll be monitoring them. I need to make sure that they everyone is right for our first league game in three weeks’ time – they are a brand new group, and I want to make sure that everything is done properly.”

Quakers have a hectic start to the season with eight league games just in the month of August, so Alun is anxious that everyone is injury-free.

Alun is still looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season. “We need some more physicality in midfield and attack, we have to get something different.”

Tonight’s game against the National League side kicks off at 7.30.

The turnstiles will be open from 6.30pm.

Supporters’ entry is via cash payment at the turnstile. There is no access to the 1919 bar for Darlington supporters. Non alcoholic refreshments, hot and cold, along with a range of food will be available within the away section.

The Stadium is a completely No Smoking Zone
