Quakers put six past Aycliffe in friendly

Alun delighted with the performance

Quakers produced an impressive performance by putting six past Newton Aycliffe in their second pre-season friendly on Saturday.

There were plenty of plusses in the performance with several players standing out, and once again Quakers didn't concede a goal. Manager Alun Armstrong used all 20 players at his disposal in front of a 455 crowd.

Quakers took the lead on 35 minutes when Jordan Windass, playing at right wing back, was barged off the ball in the area and Mitch Curry scored from the spot.

It was 2-0 on 40 minutes when Jarrett Rivers fired in a right foot shot from a Jordan Mustoe assist, then just on half time Windass curled home a free kick from the edge of the area.

Ten minutes after half time, Rivers threaded the ball through for Andrew Nelson to sidefoot past the keeper, and on the hour Ben Hedley, playing at left back, blasted the fifth.

Cameron Salkeld scored the sixth from a Kallum Griffiths cross in the last minute.

Team: Taylor, Windass (sub Griffiths 46), Lees (sub Hedley 46) . Lawlor (sub Emery 75), Sukar, Mustoe (sub Felix 46), Platt, Moke (sub Liddle 46), Rivers (sub Raper 75), Curry (sub Salkeld 46), Nelson (Sub Harker 75)

Here are Alun's thoughts on the game:

And here are those of Andrew Nelson, who scored one of the goals. He also chats about how he's coping with the pre season training.

Quakers' next friendly is at home to Football League club Harrogate Town on Saturday at Blackwell Meadows, kick off 3pm.

We'd like to thank Aycliffe for staging the game.
