Darlington manager Tommy Wright has announced today that Tom Portas has been released.

Tom, 26,  made 124 appearances for us, scoring 9 goals since he joined us from Whitby in the summer of 2014. He made most of his appearances in centre midfield, but he also played right back when there were injuries in that position. His appearances have been limited this season unfortunately because of injury.

Tom scored the goal of the season against Bamber Bridge  in the 2014-15 season, and you can watch it here.

He was also voted the Player of the Year by his teammates that season.

Tom was also a regular in the side when we won the EvoStik Premier League in 2015-16, and he scored one of our goals in that fantastic 4-3 comeback win at Salford. He also scored the winner against Nantwich in the hectic run in to that season, and played in that unforgettable 7-1 win at Whitby.

Everyone at Darlington FC would like to thank Tom for what he’s done for us, and wish him all the best for the future.
