The board of directors of Darlington Football Club would like to announce that we have today signed left sided player Anthony Callaghan from Northern League club Washington.

21 year old Anthony started his career at Sunderland, and was released by them in the summer of 2013. He then went on to West Auckland, Sunderland RCA and Whitby, before moving to Washington, where he was part of the team that drew with Marine in the FA Cup earlier in the season, before losing the replay. He has also represented England at Under 16 level.

Darlington manager Martin Gray said; “He’s a very talented footballer who can play down the left side. He’s got great quality on the ball, and is quick. I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Anthony goes straight into the squad for Tuesday night’s away game at Ashton United.

Everyone at Darlington Football Club hopes that Anthony has a long and successful stay with us.
