Encouraging performance by Quakers: Terry pleased

3-3 draw against neighbours

Darlington 3 York City 3

Quakers produced an encouraging performance to earn a deserved draw against York at Blackwell Meadows tonight.

After York took advantage of Quakers' slow start, the home side came roaring back to take the lead.

However, York scored twice in as many second half minutes before Cedric Main scored his second penalty of the night.

The club's new floodlights were also switched on at half time.

The visitors took the game to Quakers in the opening 15 minutes and took the lead with a good effort, but Quakers came battling back.

Jack Maskell hit the post with a superb overhead kick, before Will Hatfield curled a free kick from just outside the box into the top corner before half time.

They took the lead at the start of the second half when Joe Leesley was brought down, and Cedric Main confidently tucked the penalty into the bottom left corner.

They nearly made it 3-1 when Maskell cleverly held the ball up under pressure in the area and set up Hatfield, who hit the post.

Jarrett Rivers had an effort touched over the bar, before York stunned Quakers by scoring twice in as many minutes to lead 3-2.

However, Maskell was then brought down in the area, and Main stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way again to complete an entertaining encounter.

Assistant manager Terry Mitchell spoke to the official website afterwards (apologies for the sound issue):
