Quakers nearly scored on 4 minutes. Jarrett Rivers found Jonny Ngandu 30 yards out, and he hit a powerful right foot shot that Ryan Whitley fumbled against the post, and a defender just managed to clear before Cameron Salkeld could get to the ball.
Play went up the other end, and Jake Lawlor did well to control the ball and clear it under pressure in his six yard box.
But Scarborough were awarded a penalty on 7 minutes when Ben Hedley was adjudged to have handled in the area, and Aidan Rutledge scored from the spot.
Quakers responded when Nelson turned quickly on the corner of the six yard box and hit a right foot shot that Whitley fingertipped against the bar -- the second time Quakers had struck the woodwork.
Quakers had another half chance when Hedley crossed well from the left, but just too far for Salkeld on the six yard line.
Scarborough got a free kick near the corner flag on 22 minutes. Barnes curled the free kick into the box, but Taylor confidently punched the ball away.
Barnes then made his way into the box on the right, and his low cross was well held by Taylor.
Ngandu nearly sent Salkeld through with a good ball, but Gooda put in a sliding tackle on the edge of the Scarborough area.
Ngandu then sent Griffiths down the right, but the full back’s cross was held by Whitley.
Quakers won a free kick for a foul by Purver on Rivers on 40 minutes. Griffiths free kick was headed away straight to Siddik, who volleyed over the top.
Scarborough nearly went 2-0 up on 44 minutes. They won possession 30 yads out, and the ball was played through to Wiles, whose shot was blocked by the advancing Taylor.
Just on half time, Barnes burst through to the edge of the area, and fired left footed over the top
Half time 1-0
Quakers put Akwasi Asante on for Salkeld at the start of the second half, going two up top.
Quakers thought they should have had a penalty when Nelson dribbled in from the right and wet down when he was challenged, but the ref awarded a free kick instead.
Asante's first touch was a right foot shot from the left side of the box straight at Whitley.
Scarborough won a corner on the hour on the right, but Siddik headed the ball away, and then blocked the follow up.
Quakers had another penalty shout on 63 minutes when Hatfield tried to force his way into the box and a defender seemed to intercept with his hand, but the referee waved play on.
Scarborough nearly went 2-0 up when Hatfield was penalised for a foul 25 yards out and Harry Green fired the free kick just wide.
Quakers responded with a neat interchange between Rivers and Nelson, but Rivers was crowded out in the box.
Scarborough almost caught Quakers on the counter, but Lawlor did well to get the ball away, and as the game opened up, Purver fired over the top.
There was another break when Rutledge got away, and he set up Green, who fired over the top.
Ngandu nearly levelled, when he turned outside the box and hit a left foot shot that Whitley saved at full stretch.
Then in Quakers next attack, Hedley fired towards the bottom corner and Whitley again saved.
Those misses were too prove costly, because it was 2-0 on 76 minutes, when Scarborough won possession in midfield, and the ball was played through for Green to run through and beat Taylor.
Quakers put Williams on for Rivers after the goal, and he nearly scored when he controlled a diagonal pass from Hedley, ran to the edge of the area and his low shot was parried by Whitley.
But Quakers couldn't break through, and they'll be hoping for a better result in teh return game on Saturday
