Winning run ends

Spennymoor 2 Darlington 1

Attendance 2428

Cornish 16 mins, 0-1 Harris 21 mins, 1-1, Ramshaw 26 mins, 2-1

Quakers' four game winning run came to an end when they were beaten at the Brewery Field.

They took the lead through Matty Cornish, but Moors hit back with two goals in five minutes to eventually win the game.

But Quakers will look back at some costly missed chances, particularly in a good spell before half time.

Quakers threatened when Will Hatfield found Kallum Griffiths on the right, and he put a first time cross to the far post where Cornish was pulled up for a foul.

They nearly scored on 5 minutes when Main won the ball out by the corner flag, ran inside, and curled in a left foot shot that Spennymoor keeper Brad James saved at full stretch.

Andrew Nelson got a free kick just outside the box on 10 minutes, but Cornish curled the free kick over the bar.

Nelson went down injured and had to receive treatment.

Spennymoor’s first meaningful attack down the left on 15 minutes ended when Ben Hedley was fouled in the Darlington area .

Quakers took the lead on 16 minutes. Cameron Salkeld found Griffiths on the right, and he played the ball across the area to the far post, where Cornish slid the ball home, for his fourth goal for the club.

Moors went close on 19 minutes when Dolan curled a free kick over from the left, and after it was flicked on, Lees put it over his own bar for a corner that Young confidently collected.
But Moors levelled on 21 minutes when Lufudu crossed from the right, and Harris glanced the ball past Young.

Quakers replaced the injured Nelson with Mitch Curry.

Quakers responded with a free kick on the right from Griffiths that was cleared at the near post, and then another by Cornish that went over everybody.
But Quakers were exposed on 27 minutes with a ball down the right for Rob Ramshaw to run on to, and fire past Young.

Quakers nearly broke through when Cornish latched on to a pass by Main, but Shrimpton just managed to get a challenge in on the edge of the box.

Main sent Salkeld away down the right, and he crossed into the near post where Curry volleyed wide.

Quakers had a chance when the Moors defence failed to deal with a left wing cross from Barrow, and the ball fell for Salkeld, who fired over the top.

And there was another on 44 minutes when Main put Salkeld round the back of the defence and he played the ball to the far post where Cornish took a touch and was crowded out six yards from goal.

Just on half time, Curry got round the back on the left, and Main, arriving at full speed, volleyed his pull back over the bar

half time Spennymoor 2 Darlington 1.

Lufudu went on a mazy run into the Darlington box, but he was stopped by a firm challenge from Lees.

Quakers had a penalty shout when Mains’ effort hit a defender, but the ref gave a orner instead, which ended when Hatfield pulled his shot wide.

Quakers got a corner on 59 minutes on the right hand side, but Cornish’s inswinging corner was held by James.

But at the other end Quakers had some defending to do, and they blocked three shots following a free kick.

Quakers nearly levelled when Main and Salkeld combined well to give Curry a shooting chance, and his effort was palmed away by James.

Quakers then forced two corners in four minutes, the first of which came to nothing, but the second was headed over by Platt.
Quakers then took Cornish off, with Jonny Ngandu coming on 76 minutes.

Main controlled a good crossfield ball by Hatfield, held off two challenges and set up Hatfield, who fired straight at James.
Ngandu got down the left and set up Salkeld, who put the ball over the bar.

Lindley replaced Hatfield on 84 minutes. Hatfield had been on a suspension tightrope, if he had been booked today he would have been banned for two matches having reached ten bookings before tomorrow's cut off date.

Spennymoor went looking for a third, and McKeown cut in from the left and curled a shot over the bar.
But Darlington kept going, and Main played the ball inside for Ngandu, who turned and fired over the top from an acute angle.

Moors nearly scored when Ramshaw got through, but he pulled his shot wide.
Moors had a scare when James dropped a right wing cross from Griffiths, but Ngandu couldn’t get to the ball.
